Or:Take either exit# 27 or exit #25 from I-75, follow CSCC signs.  The BSC is directly across the street facing the  CSCC  main campus.

Note on the October meeting:  If the weather is nice, Randy Morris would like to encourage everyone to arrive early for the October 14 meeting at Cleveland State Community College (CSCC) to take advantage of the CSCC Nature Trail. The Cherokee Hiking Club has adopted maintenance on this trail and several of our members were instrumental in a re-design of the trail once some of the previous land was sold for development. The trail, about 1 mile in length, is located in the woods behind the tennis courts off Adkisson Drive. It is a good trail with some “ups and downs”.

Cherokee Hiking Club Minutes
October 14, 2010
Baptist Student Center at CSCC in Cleveland

The monthly meeting of the Cherokee Hiking Club was held at 6:40 p.m. on October 14, 2010 at the Baptist Student Center at CSCC.  Twelve members attended.  Following a potluck supper, President, Randy Morris called the business meeting to order at 7:25 p.m.  Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary, Jane Bohannon, and were accepted as read.  In the absence of Ann Gray, Treasurer, Randy reported the current balance.

Old business:  There was no old business.

New business:  Debbie Flower who was assisted by other members of the nominating committee recommended the following:  Secretary-Jane Bohannon, Treasurer-Ann Gray, Publicist-Debbie Flower, and Webmaster- Rick Harris.  Recommendations for President, Vice-President, and Newsletter Editor are currently being sought.

The club voted to donate $50.00 to the Baptist Student Center for use of the meeting room.

Options on arrangements for the December meeting/Christmas Party at Black Bear Cove were presented by Rick Harris.  Marc Bernatti made a motion to accept Sunday, December 12 for the buffet from 1-3 p.m.  Kathy Seymour seconded the motion.  The cost for the buffet will be $11.99 plus tax(drink not included).  The club voted for tips to be paid with club funds.  We will have a free extra room for the installation of officers and the Chinese gift exchange.  Price of gifts was set at $10.00.

Jane started a discussion on the possibility of having fewer meetings.  The discussion leaned toward this plan:  combining the June/July meeting, allowing the Hike Planning Meeting  in January to serve as the January monthly meeting, and combining the August/September meeting.

Hikes completed:  Reports were given on the Unicoi Turnpike and  Coker Creek trails, and the John Muir cleanup.

Upcoming hikes:   The Scenic Spur Trail(leader Randy Morris), Panther Creek Falls(leaders Dianna and Bill Ristom), Lookout Mountain Bluff(leader Gail Gray), Lake McKamy(leaders Bob and Effaleda Lee), and Possum Creek segment of the Cumberland Trail(leader Randy Morris).  Marc Bernatti will lead Turtletown Falls on November 20(added).  Laurel Falls was cancelled.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.

The next monthly meeting will be November 11 at Pat and Leon Bates home at 6:30 p.m.  Bring a potluck dish as usual.  Address is 285 Laurelwood Lane, Benton, Tn.  (see directions in newsletter).
