Spring Wildlife Pilgrimage
April 23-27, 2013

This event is held every year in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Gatlinburg TN, and is well attended by many people from all over.  The Club’s own wildflower expect, Leon Bates, is scheduled to give a few walks/talks on the spring wildflowers blooming in the GSMNP.  There will be ecology talks and Native American lore offered in addition to the wildflower hikes, and many of the hikes have historical interest as well, since they go through old homesteads, fields and cemeteries.  The hikes will be at various levels of difficulty, ranging from easy to strenuous.

If you are planning to attend, make sure to sign up as soon as possible so that you can reserve the event hikes/talks that you are interested in attending, since there are a limited number of slots available for each hike.  You will also want to reserve your lodging quickly if you plan to attend more than one day, since lodging is also filling up, and prices may rise.  The cost of attending the Wildflower Pilgrimage is $50 for one day and $75 for 2 or more days.  Go to http://www.springwildflowerpilgrimage.org/ to register, find links to lodging, sign up for individual hikes/events, download a printable brochure, maps, and more.
