Linda Davis Memorial Cleveland Greenway Hike
Saturday, November 24, 2012

Brief Description:   The annual Saturday after Thanksgiving hike will be a roundtrip stroll along the 4 mile Cleveland/Bradley County Greenway—for approximately 8 miles total. This hike, named in honor of long-time hike leader and CHC member Linda Davis, is moving to the Cleveland Greenway from the Chattanooga River Walk this year—a move I think Linda would feel was quite appropriate. With the new section between Mouse Creek Road and Raider Drive now complete, a 4 mile stretch of good trail along Mouse Creek is now available to burn off a few of the Thanksgiving Meal calories.

This is a nice walk which we hopefully will get to enjoy on a beautiful late autumn morning. The trail is rated easy. We will begin at 9 a.m. at a TBA trailhead. Please call Randy Morris at 423-650-0485 no later than 9 p.m. Friday, November 23 if interested in attending for more details. You must call if interested to get specifics and so I will know who to contact in the event of a cancellation due to weather. If you only want to do the trail one way you may work with others to set up a car shuttle, but the hike as led will be a roundtrip affair.

Length 8 miles

Difficulty Rating: Easy

Elevation Gain: <200 feet elevation rise

Post Trip Report:   Eight urban hikers enjoyed a beautiful, crisp morning on the Cleveland/Bradley County Greenway. This hike is traditionally the Saturday after Thanksgiving hike that the late Linda Davis began several years ago on the Chattanooga River Walk. The move to the Cleveland Greenway this year seemed to be a hit with everyone as we enjoyed a nice stroll within an easy drive of our residences. The greenway ducks were numerous on Mouse Creek—including a pair of large white ones—a good tribute to Linda who worked for AFLAC Insurance Company. I envision this event continuing in this format for future years in honor of Linda’s great contributions to the hiking club and the community. Enjoying the hike were James and Phyllis Anderson, Carol and Carroll Guhne, Jennifer Schroll, Kathy Seymour, Jan Smith and hike leader Randy Morris.
