Linda Davis Memorial Walk
Chattanooga Riverwalk

Saturday, November 19, 2011

Brief Description: We will hike going towards the Chickamauga Dam at Highway 153 from Coolidge Park on the Riverwalk.  Join us for a hike in memory of our late club member Linda Davis, avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast, and enjoy Chattanooga’s unique park that runs along the Tennessee River.  There is minimum elevation gain, but care must be taken to walk to one side when bikers go by, since the trail is also a bike path.  We will hike 4 miles and turn around and hike the 4 miles back.  Lunch afterwards will be at either Rembrandt’s or Tony’s.  Approximate hike time will be 3 hours going both ways.  Sorry, no pets are allowed on this trail.

Leader:  Esther Nunley, home 423-507-8817, cell 423-920-8660

Difficulty: Easy, 8 miles, minimal elevation gain, paved bike path along the Tennessee River

Directions to the TrailheadMeet at Coolidge Park in Chattanooga at 10:00 a.m.  From Cleveland and points north, take I-75 into Chattanooga, and turn at the Highway 153 exit.  Continue on 153 until you reach the Amnicola Highway exit, and turn left (south) on Amnicola Highway; don’t go across the Chickamauga Dam bridge.  Continue on Amnicola for a while; it will change to Riverside Drive, then Riverfront Parkway.  Turn right on Georgia Avenue and cross the Veteran’s Bridge.  After crossing the river, take the Frazier Avenue exit; once you are on Frazier, turn left on Tremont Street and then right on River Street.  The park is just a block or two on the left at 150 River Street; you can park in the lot or the parking spaces there.  Parking can be scarce.

Directions to carpool:  Meet at 9:00 a.m. in the Commuter Parking Lot next to the Shell station at Exit 25 in Cleveland.  From I-75, take Exit 25 and head west.  The Shell station is at the first light past the I-75 overpass, on the left.  The Commuter Parking Lot is to the immediate right of the Shell station.
