Brief Description: The trail system at the Park offers views of Fort Loudoun Lake and the highest peaks in the western end of the Smokies and the northern end of the Cherokee NF. The trail goes through woodlands, a grassy field, and along the lake shore. Even though it is a easy hike there are several short ups and downs. Some may want to arrive early to tour the visitor center and the restored British fort. The visitor center closes at 4:00. This is a joint hike of the Cherokee Hiking Club and the Hiwassee Hiking Club.
Length: 3.25 miles plus 0.5 mile for optional Lost Shoe extension
Difficulty Rating: Easy

Directions to the Trailhead: Meet at Comcast in Athens ready to leave at 1:30 p.m or be at the trail head at 2:15. From Vonore on 411 turn right on 360 and go about two miles. Turn left at the park sign just after crossing a bridge. The trail head is located near the picnic area. Restrooms are open in the visitor center and also at the picnic area, if not closed for the winter.
Post Trip Report: Six members of the Cherokee and/or the Hiwassee Hiking Club, and five visitors had a pleasant Sunday afternoon to hike around the park. Although it was overcast, the views of the lake and mountains were rewarding.. It was definitely a good day to be out.
