Falls Day Hike
Sunday, October
31, 2010
Brief Description: Using four trails around Chilhowee Campground, we will make a loop trip to Benton Falls. The final 1/2 mile to the Falls will be in and out but the remainder will be on the loop. Leaves should still be in color and the falls will be a good place to rest before returning to our cars. This will be a joint hike of the Hiwassee and Cherokee Hiking Clubs. Bring water and rain gear.
Length: 4.5 miles
Difficulty Rating: Easy with about 300-400 feet of elevation change.
Hike Leader: Effaleda & Bob Lee (423-568-2501), Smokyhiker@aol.com, Cell (423-507-5582). Call leaders if additional information is needed.
Directions to the Trailhead: From Athens meet at Comcast in time to leave at 1:15 p.m. Cleveland hikers can meet us at the Lake McKamy parking lot (fee area) at 2:15 p.m. Parking is $3 per vehicle ($1.50 for Golden Passport holders)
Post Trip Report: Five members and one guest of the Cherokee and/or Hiwassee Hiking Clubs had a fantastic afternoon to enjoy the out of doors. Even with 4-5 inches of rain during the past week, the falls had less water than expected. Some leaf color was observed and the sky was as blue as could be. Our guest had taught English to university students in China for four years and it was interesting to hear her tell about China's culture.
