Cumberland Trail - Piney River Segment Dayhike

Saturday, April 25, 2009

Brief Description: The Piney River Segment of the Cumberland Trail is near Spring City.  We will hike about 10 miles, (a little less). The trail is not difficult, but it is very long and follows the Piney River for a few miles. There are beautiful cascades, many different wildflowers and a one hundred foot suspension footbridge that that crosses the river.  This hike has always been a popular one with the Hiwassee Club.  After the hike we plan to eat dinner at a nice restaurant.

Leader Esther at 423-920-8660

Difficulty: Moderate, 10.0 miles

Directions to the Trailhead: We will meet at 8am at Hardee's in Sweetwater. Trail head is off Shut-in Gap Road in Spring City. There will be a car shuttle from the picnic area on Shut-in Gap Road to the trail head. The road to the trail head has some washouts but is passable.
